Signs of rats and mice in a Portland home

A noise in the attic is not proof by itself. These are the signs our technicians look for to confirm rodents before any treatment starts.

Droppings

Small dark pellets along walls, in cupboards, behind appliances or in the garage.

Gnaw marks

Fresh chew marks on wood, wiring, food packaging or stored boxes.

Rub marks and runways

Greasy smudges along baseboards and worn paths in crawl space insulation.

Noises at night

Scratching or scurrying in walls, ceilings or under floors after dark.

Why Portland homes get rodents

Portland’s wet, mild climate keeps food and shelter available most of the year, and older homes with crawl spaces, vents and gaps around pipes give rats and mice an easy way in. Over the last 5 years, every month brought Interstate Pest Management at least 7% of its new rodent calls.

Rodents in the house are unsettling. You start checking the pantry, wondering what is in the insulation and listening for noises after dark. We hear it every week, and the fix follows the same path: clear out the rodents you have, then seal the gaps they used.

How we handle rodents in Portland

  1. 1

    Inspect and confirm

Your technician checks the crawl space, attic, garage and exterior for droppings, runways and the gaps rodents use.

  2. 2

    Control and seal

We set traps and tamper-resistant bait stations where the activity is, away from kids and pets, and quote exclusion for the entry points we find. Exclusion materials carry a 1-year warranty.

  3. 3

    Keep checking

Scheduled visits keep stations serviced and catch new activity early. Re-service between visits is free.

12 months

Rodents don’t take a season off. Over the last 5 years, every month brought in at least 7% of our new rodent calls.

September

is the busiest single month for new rodent calls, at 10% of the year.

$350

for the One-time Rodent Service first visit, then $60 per follow-up, if you would rather not join a plan.

What waiting costs

  • Rats and mice keep gnawing on wiring, wood and stored boxes.
  • Droppings and nesting material build up in insulation and crawl spaces.
  • More gaps get used over time, which makes sealing the house a bigger job.

Yes. After the inspection we quote exclusion work for the gaps we find, such as vents, pipe openings and foundation gaps. Exclusion materials carry a 1-year warranty.

We use tamper-resistant stations and place them where activity is, out of reach of children and pets. Your technician will show you where each one is.

It depends on how many rodents there are and how they get in. Most homes need a few visits: control first, then exclusion, then follow-up checks. Your technician will give you a timeline after the inspection.

Do you remove squirrels, raccoons or other wildlife?

No. We handle rats and mice only. For other animals, call us and we’ll point you in the right direction.
