The valley the lahar came down
HistoryLink says the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens sent a 200-foot-thick lahar down the Toutle River Valley into the Cowlitz. USGS says the Toutle carried about 405 million tons of sediment into the lower Cowlitz from the eruption through 2018, and that since 1987 it has averaged 2.8 million tons a year, still 10 times pre-eruption levels. The National Weather Service gauge for the Toutle River at Tower Road lists a record crest of 145.01 feet on December 3, 1982.
Toutle’s pest list leans outdoors. In Interstate Pest Management records for new customers with Toutle billing addresses over the last five years, wasps and yellow jackets were on 28% of first visits and boxelder bugs on 26%, compared with 10% and 11% across our whole Kelso service area.
When to expect it
Boxelder bugs come in two waves in the foothills. In Interstate Pest Management records for new customers with Castle Rock, Silverlake, Toutle and Ariel billing addresses over the last five years, March brought 32% of the year’s new boxelder bug calls and October brought 27%.

WSU says western boxelder bugs move to homes in late summer and fall to spend the winter. Sealing gaps around windows, siding, vents and the foundation before October keeps most of them out, and our plan covers treating the walls where they gather.

What our customers say
4.96 average from 8,394 Google reviews
“Bob came and performed a pest control treatment on our house today. Great communication and enjoyable conversation upon completion. Even though we were told that it could take up to two weeks to see the full effect of the application, just three hours later we have already seen a significant reduction of box elder bugs. Highly recommend this company.”
“Amazing! Technician is courteous, calling before he gets here. He’s thorough with getting cobwebs from under the eves. Listens when I’m freaking out about a bug falling down my shirt. Makes sure I feel empowered on how to help get rid of Box elder bugs so there’s no more bugs dropping down on me when I enter or exit my house.”
“Had yellow jackets in my gas fireplace. Interstate was very quick to set up an appointment to come and take care of my problem. Adam made sure I new everything he was going to do. He was very professional and thorough in his job well done. He didn’t hesitate to go up on the roof of my two story house and treat my chimney. My house will now be pest free for the winter thanks to Adam.”
