A river town named for a steamboat
HistoryLink says Toledo incorporated on October 1, 1892 and was named for the steamship Toledo, which ran a river route between Portland and Toledo starting in 1879. The same history says the Cowlitz overran its banks every few years until the Mayfield and Mossyrock dams were finished in 1963 and 1968, and that the first Cheese Day was held in June 1919.
Spiders and boxelder bugs stand out here. In Interstate Pest Management records for new customers with Toledo billing addresses over the last five years, spiders were on 32% of first visits and boxelder bugs on 27%, compared with 19% and 11% across our whole Kelso service area. Ants were on 46%.
When to expect it
Spider calls bunch up at the end of summer. In Interstate Pest Management records for new Lewis County customers over the last five years, July through September brought 62% of the year’s new spider calls, with September the busiest month.

Most of the big spiders that turn up indoors in September are males out looking for mates. Knocking down webs, sealing gaps at doors and turning off porch lights at night (they draw the insects spiders eat) all help between visits.

How service works in Toledo
- 1
Tell us what you see
Book online or call 360-515-3882. A photo of the spider or bug helps us send the right technician to your Toledo address.
- 2
Inspect and treat
Your technician walks the house, the crawl space and any outbuildings, finds where pests get in and what draws them, treats them and shows you what was done.
- 3
Stay ahead of each season
Visits are timed ahead of each pest’s busy months. If something gets through between visits, one call brings us back, included in your plan.
