Types of Rodents We Treat

Rodents are more than just a nuisance pest. They spread diseases—such as typhus, Lyme Disease, salmonella, and even the plague—and can cause acute food poisoning when they contaminate food. These creatures are also destructive, as they have no problem gnawing through walls and electrical wiring, which can trigger fires and cost considerable damage.

Our Portland and Vancouver rodent control services target pests such as:

Trusted, Effective, and Holistic Pest Control Solutions

Make no mistake, though: We don’t sacrifice effectiveness for efficiency when it comes to eliminating rodents from your home. Our pest control experts take a thorough, comprehensive approach to your rodent problem to enact the best solution.

Our 5-Step Rodent Control and Exclusion Approach

Our rodent control program follows five general steps to help ensure the most effective methods of rodent exclusion, control, and prevention.

  1. Inspection: A qualified pest inspector performs an initial inspection to identify entry points.
  2. Exclusion: We give a bid for one-time* exclusion efforts.
  3. Trapping: Baits and traps are set out, with a free follow-up one week later.
  4. Quality Assurance: A series of follow-up visits reinspect entry points, pest activity, and any repairs made.
  5. Maintenance: Ongoing maintenance is performed as part of the All-Season Plus program.

*Note: Structural work performed for rodent exclusion is not included within the All-Season Plus program.

Exclusion Before Extermination

At Interstate Pest Management, our number-one priority is to determine and fully tackle the root of any pest issue—which goes beyond merely managing it. That’s why we focus on exclusion before extermination. In other words, while your average pest control company might simply set out bait to kill mice or rats, our qualified inspectors and technicians know that rodent infestations run deeper. The first step is to close the door to rodent pests as soon as possible.

Our rodent treatment begins with sending out a certified pest inspector, who will identify signs of pest activity and potential points of entry. Our inspections are nothing short of thorough; we’ll spend as long as we need to checking your home from top to bottom. Considering that rodents originate from many places besides inside your house, like compost piles, chicken coops, and treehouses, we make sure to target both indoor and outdoor sources. This initial inspection also includes a full, detailed report of our findings complete with drawings.

We believe it’s most urgent to establish a proper barrier around the perimeter to deter rodents from the house. Necessary exclusion methods will vary on a case-by-case basis, but upon first visit, we will discuss with you a proposed plan for rodent-proofing your home. It’s easy for rodents to enter from beneath your home, too, which is why we offer additional crawl space repair services to rebuild your crawl space doors and address other conducive conditions it may provide for the pests.

Once the optimal exclusion and prevention methods have been identified, we also employ a combination of green, environmentally-friendly rodent control techniques to help protect your home, including:

  • Baits
  • Traps (glue traps, snap traps)
  • Monitoring stations
  • Exclusion with door sweeps and caulk-sealing

One week after they are set, our pest technicians will follow up with a trap check and determine any necessary next steps. (Plus, once we leave the traps in your home, they’re yours to keep!)

The inspection, baiting and trapping, and follow-up appointments are included in our All-Season Plus pest control package; its regular treatments work to maintain a permanently pest-free home by eliminating any current infestations and preventing them from returning.

What Makes Our Rodent Control Program Different?

Designed to cut off rodents at the source, the Interstate Pest rodent control program is built around what we’ve seen drive results as well as the gaps we’ve identified in other pest control methods. Combining the knowledge and service of our qualified, well-trained pest inspectors and professional technicians, we’ve established a complete, strategic exclusion plan to rid Washington and Oregon homes of rodents. There’s no putting band-aids over an infestation for a temporary fix—we take care of the mice and rats that are already there, then follow up to make sure they can’t come back.
